Thinking of Mama

I find myself thinking of Mama a lot this time of year. The eleventh anniversary of her death was May 5. Her 99th birthday would have been yesterday, May 7. And tomorrow, May 9, is Mother’s Day.

The picture is of Mama, at our wedding in 1985.

I find Mama’s obituary a perfect recognition of the fine person she was.

Life with Mama was always an adventure. Whether we were visiting the farm in Mississippi, having a neighborhood party, or a formal dinner, she was always there, always supportive. But she let us spread our wings. We always knew, at the end of the day, we could come home to a welcoming home, a good dinner, and love.

  1. Hey Sue, How are things up there in the cold north?
I’m still enjoying retirement down here.
A couple of my cousins wanted to read your book so I bought a couple of copies from Amazon.
Found that I still appear as “Oscar”! I thought that had been corrected!
Tried to explain to cousins that Oscar was actually me.
    “SURE” they said, “Oh sure”!
Anyway, please give my best to Jim.
    Kindest regards,
    Jeff
